Hi all. I'm thinking of moving north to Chico, CA. I have friends there and I've visited once when the weather was scorching hot! I didn't much like the weather, but I currently live near Monterey, CA and it's too overpriced so I need out! So I'd like to know: What is the literally coolest area in Chico to live? I noticed my friends live in the foothills near the Observatory which is a higher elevation and more exposure to the sun with no trees really. But is there a cooler side of town with trees and some kind of shade? Thank you

Older established neighborhoods in the core of the city and areas surrounding Bidwell Park have a contiguous tree canopy that offers a lot of shade. Personally, I rather like the Lindo Creek area. You're not going to find an order of magnitude difference, though. I would focus on finding a house that's insulated at least to Super Good Cents standards rather than hoping to find a microclimate where the summer highs average 1.3 degrees lower than in downtown.

or the paradise, magalia area we run about 10 degrees cooler that Chico and housing is considerably cheaper

Never been to Chico. But if there is a house across the street from the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.....then that would no doubt be the coolest place to live.
