Were (are) you a California homeowner, or were you renting?

Have no fear Charles, there will certainly be a guest worker to take the place of those fleeing. What puzzles me is who will be left to pay the taxes to feed them?

Wouldn't be so sure of that - they'll go where the jobs are, just like everyone else, and the jobs aren't in California.

Immigrants are motivated by the same things the US-born are motivated by, people on these boards look at them as if they're a different species.

That makes no sense, a "guest worker" is working, working gets a salary, salary gets food. Funny how that works.

I think the people leaving are: the retired, selling and buying in a cheaper housing market, the young and adventurous moving to adventurous places, the economically marginal looking for the end of the rainbow.

A person with a good job likely isn't leaving just because there are "illegals".

^^No, they are leaving because of Californias high cost of living and oppressive business climate!!
Its the middle class fleeing for an easier lifestyle.

isn't 'California homeowner' synonymous with FOOL?

I mean who pays these prices?!?! Nobody these days. If you got in/out at the right time you made out. Gratz! But if you got in too late... oops!

I just never bought into the hype that California real estate would ALWAYS go up in value. I had plenty of folks tell me that, and tell me I was stupid to ever believe different.

I know several people in California short selling condos for what a 3500 sq foot home sells for in any other state.

Is the weather really worth that to those that stay?

If so, fine, not judging...but it's not worth it to me.
