...or is coastal California some of the most beautiful scenery in the country?

I was just BSing around on Google maps, and I dropped that little orange guy firstly along the coast, south a ways from San Francisco. I was amazed. I went further south, close to L.A. and was even more amazed. There was some scenery that reminded me of coastal Montenegro, most definitely.

Anyways, just thought I had to put that out there!

Big Sur to to Cambria is my favorite part of the state. You should do the hwy 1 drive along the coast.

Yes, coastal California is a combination of beautiful scenery, and an amazing climate. There is a reason why California coastal real estate is so expensive.

Look for posts from Mtnsurfer; he is the absolute King of City-Data photography. Most of his photos are of California, the California coast, and California scenic areas like Yosemite.

Regardless of what one may think of California overall, no one can say it isn't one of the most beautiful states in the union, maybe in the world. Of course I am one that thinks almost every state has a form of beauty, but Ca is certainly one of the best.

My favorite thing in the world was to take my 1970 Firebird and drive from San Diego all the way up to Santa Barbara on weekends. The coast was awesome and hardly any other cars on the road with me at times. Not the bumper to bumper mess now. The coast is still beautiful and the further north you get the more beautiful the land. Her heart is still beating, maybe she can come back some day.

Having driven the coast from the Mexican border to Cresent City and up well into Oregon I have to say that the CA coast is almost unmatched in beauty. There are states, countries and islands with enviable beaches and coastlines but for sheer length and geological variety, this coast is supreme.

Yep,

I have to agree . As a nature photographer 'hobbiest' this is a great state to live in. California photographers Ansel Adams and Galin Rowell set the bar high while capturing the state's beauty.

I honestly can't say which I find more beautiful - the coast or the mtns. I have a great time visiting both as often as I can. Here are a few recent ones.

And a couple from a recent trip to Yosemite:
