After doing countless searches online for apartments around the Agoura Hills... all the reviews of apartments seem by angy tenants. I'm flying to LA in two weeks to find my place... if anyone has good suggestions of apartments within 15 miles or so of Agoura Hills it's much appreciated. Budget is around 2k/month.

Archstone has a few properties in the Conejo valley within your budget. Apartments are always hit and miss, but Archstone is at least likely to provide a decent place.
Just a note, but most of the apartments in Calabasas are filled with students.
Also, this company has two decent complexes in Thousand Oaks:
