Egypt is pretty cheap, but the daily airline tickets will be a little rough. Maybe consider getting a little closer like Peru or something.

I went to grad school at UCSB. I don't recommend working if you are in full time grad school. I did crew and I had no time at all. It is extremely competitive academically. I was the dunce of all my classes but I still made it.

Lots, and I mean lots of chicks - another distraction, as is the flawless weather year round, and the beach 200 yards from your class, and State Street bars, five miles away. Oh, and living in Isla Vista is like a 24/7 party.

I don't know how I made it.

You bad boy Charles . . . lol. Your posts always bring so much flavor and personality. How did SB ever let you go?

Uh, my sense is these will not be the same sort of um, women that will be attending Pacifica, Chung. Atleast not when I visited. The distractions at Pacifica will be all the very cool areas to study . . . which way do you go . . . which one to tackle first? Which faculty? So many options. I personally would have found it difficult to be anywhere other than the JC library day in and out my first year.

I'm not sure how easy it is to find a job with a PhD in mythology but I know the programs they have are excellent. The campus is near Summerland/Carpinteria so you might find something to rent in nearby in Carp. There is also Ojai or Ventura for cheaper housing if you are willing to commute farther. However that commute can sometimes be a headache with road closures & such. A higher housing cost might offset the time/expense of commuting.
