An '84 driver with only 117,000 miles!? Wow! Eagle, as long as your engine is in running shape, yes, it will help. It's VERY simple -- it just burns more of the fuel inside your engine, so less exits as pollution. No big mystery.

According to that, most counties in the Lake Tahoe region and Inyo to the south don't have smog checks for reg renewal.

Just another reason to get out and let the state stew in its own stupidity.

My 85 olds runs good. I just changed the oil & filter. I was told by a smog tech to put 3-4 gallons of premium gas in the car & drive it for a lil while. The car sometimes stays in fast idle but after i hit the pedal a few times its normal. I still have some dirty gas in the car & ill just run it out & put in fresh gas. Im hoping i pass smog but i wont know till this fri. I still have to go to the horrid DMV to pay fees, show proof of insurance & get a 1 day only moving permit. The legislature has sure made it tougher in ca to pass smog. If i fail smog ill go back to the dmv & pay the $50.00 fee (used to be free) for a one time 60 day temporary operating permit. The test only smog is $50.00 if i pass & $40.00 if i fail.

Yes, that is true. Jackson is in Amador County, and there is no biennial smog required there.

Some people will do just about anything to skirt the law. This thread really should be locked. Get you car to pass smog in the county that you live.

Agreed!
Since the beginning of this thread I now live in one of the non smog test counties. My wife and I both have 2008 Ford trucks that do burn cleaner than any in my past. I hate to see a old truck on the roads up here with smoke pouring out of the tailpipe. Any vehicle purchased up here has to pass smog on purchase but you never need to test again till you sell here.
