One thing I've noticed about California, it's cities in particular, is the high number of Hispanics living in them. I guess much of that is from immigration.

Personal connections? I'm sure none as it's been over 150 years.
However, I'd bet a good deal that many of them have family connections going back that far, just as many of the rest of us have family connections in whatever "old country" our ancestors came from.
