Is it even possible for a hurricane to hit California? Seems that the water would be too cold near the coast to fuel a hurricane but what if a cat 5 was to head towards the coast? Could it at least weaken to a cat 1 or tropical storm at landfall?

They come up the coast from Baja from time to time but they fall apart and all we ever get is some humidity and maybe a thunderstorm out of it.

How nice that must be to get humidity occasionally.

Do you think global warming could cause a hurricane to actually make it possible for one to strike the coast?

If global warning were a problem then maybe. But since it is all part of some real bad science I don't think it will ever affect the outcome.

Not in late July, early August when those monsoonal events typically occur in Southern California. We're talking highs 90s, low 100s with 40%-50% humidity. That's pretty darn hot and uncomfortable. Also is the only time of the year when you need A/C at night too.

It looks like hurricanes have hit California, but before they had all the good instuments and data and gave them names. The information is kind of conflicting.

It's anything but nice for those of us who have lived their lives in the 0 to 25% humidity range.I start bitching when it approaches 30%
