This is so shocking! I just read that there is a bill (SB 880) to legalize kangaroo skin sales in California, where they have been banned since 1970. It says, “When hunters kill a mother kangaroo with a baby in her pouch, the baby is often yanked from the mother’s lifeless body and stomped to death or left to writhe in agony.” You can help stop SB 880 and protect kangaroos from being turned into clothing by going here: http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/c...roo&c=petasvkn

This is terribly sad . . .

I would not believe everything I read online. The best roo leather is from ranches who care for them.
The best boots are made of roo - thin, light and the strongest leather with out stretching.
I usually have to order my leather from friends addresses and pick it up myself.

HUH??? As an Aussie I can tell you that kangaroos are NOT cared for by farmers , however they are brutally killed by them.

Am currently trying to find out when a final decision will be made by the Californian Government as to when they are going to legalise the importation of kangaroo products.

Just wondering if anyone may be able to help me there.

If the laws do change, it will spell disaster for kangaroos and I am currently campaigning to stop what is the world's largest massacre of mammals on the planet.

Am ashamed of our government and their decisions.

Thanks hadleyj for highlighting this issue and hopefully there are others out there who care as you do

Thanks for posting those.

The Bill Analysis is very interesting, as for the HSUS petition, Australians are not allowed to sign unfortunately.

Am still trying to find out when the final decision will be made by the Californian Government. Looks like September however I am not sure if that
is correct.

For more information on this topic and a link to email The Governor of California,
please click on the following link.
Australian Wildlife Protection Council (http://www.awpc.org.au/newsite/issues/Tough_shoes_to_fill.html - broken link)

The current laws cannot be changed, kangaroos numbers are way down because of the drought and with a growing demand for their skins which Adidas wants to make soccer boots out of (omg), kangaroos are under extreme pressure and may be lost forever.
This is insanity and I am ashamed of the Australian government for allowing this to happen......
