How are the relations between whites and Hispanics in California? Any differences between cities or areas. Is there much inter marriage.

I'm white and live in a heavily Latino city (Fontana). I have no problems, but I speak Mexican Spanish, so that might help. Except for a Romanian and a Serbian, all of my customers are Latino.

As far as intermarriage goes, some of the last names in our family now are Rios, Hernandez, Padilla, Robles...

I don't know about intermarriage but here in Santa Cruz county, at least based on my personal experience and immediate observation, it's cool.

There is much resentment of illegals and non English speakers by many, including even some native born and well assimilated Latinos.

Other than that, no issues and plenty of intermingling and intermarriage.

I am white and Hispanic. I get on really well with myself. OK, you know I am saying this cheek in tongue, right? Remember, Hispanic is not a race. Hispanics can be of any race, it just means their ancestry is from one of the very many countries in the world where Spanish is the main language.

Considering that I'm a byproduct of a white/Hispanic marriage of native-Californians, I'd have to say relations are good.

Well said. It's more of the manner in which an individual chooses to live. For instance, any gang member, black, brown or white is not a favorite citizen.

And, there is a tremendous amount of what used to be "reverse discrimination." Maybe it still is even as us whites have become a minority.

Exactly. I submit data for statistics to the state. We have to submit for race and then for ethnicity, whether or not the person is hispanic or non-hispanic.

Well said. If you're not some border hopper, gang member, or raving La Raza fanatic then it's all good and people get along fine. I'm latino, couldn't be anymore assimilated/white washed and have never had any issues with people, for the most part.

Have you tried speaking Castilian Spanish to your customers?
