I live in a big state (PA). But it's probably small, by CA standards. I don't want to be hundreds of miles away from health care services.
Here, we have the Persad Center, in Pittsburgh. It is outstanding. I travel about 140 miles round trip. It has worked out ok. But that is more difficult with the price of gas now.
I know there are quality GLBT/mental health services in LA. I was going to ask them who they would recommend, wherever I end up.
I would have to go to the hospital for the surgeries, but lots of folks even fly to other countries to do this.
So mobility shouldn't be a big problem, logistically, being in the same state (I think, anyways...).

Just asking here, but why don't you just move closer to Pittsburgh, PA. I know it's cheaper than CA and if you already have established health care providers there it seems like it would be a good deal????

Been there. Even that amount of rent is too high.

Former Pittsburgher to the rescue:

Check out Frazier Park, recently talked to a management company about a craigslist ad for a 2BR, 1100 SQ Ft on a half acre, $675. Near the Lebec exit on 1-5, 45 mins north of Magic Mountain. If you can get a hospital in the Valencia area, you will be golden.

In fact here, this will be perfect for you.
