"LIFESTYLE" that is exactly what it is and I don't think it needs to be taught in school...kids do not learn about men and women getting married and being together so why learn about gays? It doesn't make sense to me...another reason to leave California. I do not hate gay people but I do not think it is something that needs to be brought into the schools...HOOOORAY THERE ARE GAY PEOPLE COME ON CLASS LETS CELEBRATE!!! Sounds kinda dumb to me!

its a teachable moment.

if you have kids and are a god parent you understand this.

having a day for MLK is a teachable moment.
having a day for Cesar Chavez is a teachable moment.

the gays are not forcing anything down anyones throat.
this is more about factual representation of a california historical figure.

some people...

Except they do, it's called "sex education" and kids start learning it in the 5th grade. How is that not teaching about men and women being together?

Yes, kids learn about men and women getting married and being together and... god forbid, making babies..

Hey, my kids ain't black, so why should they learn about the black experience in America?

My guess is that those who are jumping up and down at the thought of a gay day, had grandparents that jumped up and down in horror at blacks getting civil rights, my gawd, some of em might marry white girls!!

I don't think whether you are for it or against it...it doesn't make a good parent or bad parent.

Ah...yes. The "I" Word. Intolerance.

That seems to be one of the first words people jump to use whenever they come across someone who opposes their viewpoint.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe we don't want our kids to learn about that because learning about sexuality-straight or gay, should be up to parents and not our Governor and Legislature.

And in celebrating Harvey Milk, we are praising the life of someone whose claim to fame is indeed their sexuality. I'm sorry, what?

Someone obviously pushed for this for it to become a bill.

A "good" parent understands that they are primarily responsible for the moral and life's lessons education of their children, not the government/schools.

There's a huge difference between education and indoctrination.

Harvey Milk turned out to be a tragic figure but I certainly wouldn't call him "historical" in terms of what should be taught to young, impressionable children.

Once again, political correctness run amok! Only in California!

A man has to have his limits. Cesar Chavez was a bad man. My mother has photos of the home farm with Highway Patrol and Sheriffs guarding the house where my mother and father lived, guarded the house from Cesar Chavez and his goons. The Sheriff had to escort my parents on and off their property for months.

They had loud speakers set up so they could holler stuff at my parents, farmers, salt of the earth farmers.

Here is one quote, "Hey! Mrs. --------, your daughter, Carole, she is 10 years old, she gets off the bus right here, think she will live to see you again?"

Yup, either Chavez said that, or one of his goons, done under his name.

There aint' no Cesar Chavez fan club around my family.

Now, you can say the farmworkers were oppressed, poorly paid, they needed a union, sure, but, the violence implied and practiced removed any moral standing from them.

Oh, the farmworkers union today? Gone from much of California, the Union officials were so corrupt that they destroyed the union.
