"Less government" is another tired Republican theme that was exposed during Bush's terms as completely ineffective. Standardized testing, more charter schools, performance based pay system, just more of the same Republican crap. Of course all of this with "no new taxes." Republicans and their candidates stink.

This dynamic, multi-cultural, highly desirable state needs someone far greater than some Republican drone by the name of "Meg." We need to find someone who is dynamic, versatile, articulate, someone with great character and integrity, someone who has themselves experienced racism and is able to relate to people who are not white, people who have unique problems that need to be addressed. We need a visionary. Someone who can offer novel solutions while listening to and working with all sides. No Republican candidate qualifies. Neither does a slimy, shallow, immoral, undignified lightweight Democrat like Gavin Newsom.

No on Meg, no question.

I personally don't give a d*mn about social issues. Our economy here is crap. That's partly due to the national recession. But it's also due to our socialist economics. Our legislature has been run by Democrats for like what, the last 50 years? Yet the Dems in this state are always blaming the Republicans for everything.

If you go by the stereotypes I should care. I'm gay, after all. But the social issues aren't worth sh*t if our economy is in the toilet. And we had budget problems waaaaay before this latest recession.

Based on many of your comments, Sass (that you're considering moving elsewhere) I'm surprised to hear you say this. You know housing here is unaffordable. Why do you think that is? Could it be because of the NIMBYs and enviro-Nazi's who live here? And what party do these folks support? Sure you can go on about Prop 13, from 1978. But the truth of the matter is California is a high tax, high regulation state. These taxes and regulations cause lots of not so good unintended consequences. Voting in another Republican may not make things better. But it might slow down the train wreck that we're headed for. If we're lucky, enough of us might come to our senses and see that taxing and regulating things to death is not so good and elect some of the right people for once.

I agree, but I'm more concerned with the Democrat side. The Dems have been the ones dominating the legislature forever. If it was compleletly up to the Dems, we'd be #1 in taxes (instead of #6) and we'd still have a huge budget deficit.

And during that time, California has grown to become the 7th largest economy in the world. The state produces an economy and culture that affects the world more than any other state in the U.S.

This "socialist" state (your word, not mine) over the last few decades has produced companies like HP, Google, Apple, Intel, Cisco Systems, DirecTV, The Gap, Qualcomm, eBay, Western Digital, Advanced Micro Devices, Sun Microsystems, Symantec, Adobe, and dozens of other Fortune 500 companies.

Oh yeah, Democrats have been horrible for California.

I don't see a Republican takeover coming anytime soon. The good news is that there's 49 other states for you to choose from.

The economy functions in California *despite* the democratic taxation, speding and regulation not *because* of it. There are many reasons for that. One being the population size is the largest in the US.

A common liberal fallacy.

Bravo!!! +1

I suppose Im enamored by Meg Whitman partially because she is not part of the political establishment like the others.

Jerry Brown(loved him as Oakland Mayor) is too old and Gavin Newsom is in my opinion, slimy, shallow, immoral and undignified-exactly as you stated.

I really don't know who to support at this point.

Oh, and thank you for reminding us why the GOP sucks.
