What part of California? Makes a big difference. Desert heat. Coastal mild. Interior. Rainy north. Cold mountains.

Totally different climates out here depending on where you live.

Absolutely! Just check your gardening books and you'll see that California has at least a dozen different climate zones, while most other states have maybe 4 at most.

I live in southern California and my bill was $11 this month because I used no air. If you are inland, you will need to use the air (unfortunately mine is broken and it was 93 inside my apt today), but my bill has never been over $30. Just turn things off when you're not using them and you'll be fine. FYI my apt is about 650 sq ft.

WOw Mel2882! Only $11 for you electricty? Even with a small apartment that is pretty good. I bet you are a thin person because you must sweat alot in this heat with no AC. lol

Today is the first day I have had to put my AC on and I am not looking forward to having to put it on more when it gets hotter. The good thing is My family does not live in a McMansion with two AC units. I say this because I remember reading the paper last year where it was saying some folks had $300-700 electricty bills! Some houses in my area have two AC units and add that to a house with a pool to filter, all the computers and large screen Tvs you get the idea.

So Kris P 20 compared to some people you shoud be fine.

Have a good day all.

I know...I was surprised at the $11 too...but I do really try to conserve energy. This is the lowest it's been...generally it's $13-15.

It will also depend on if the apartment is all electricity, or if some things are gas. This is possibly further complicated by where you live. When I lived in the Sacramento area I had gas for heat and hot water, provided by PG&E, and electricity for the rest, provided by SMUD.

For us, with gas heating/cooking, around $18 to $30 per month year round (2+2 on the coast). Probably double that with electric heat/cooking.
