I think the problem is the same as using "York" as a nickname for New York , or calling New Hampshire simply "Hampshire." York and Hampshire are the names of real places but they're in England, not the U.S. Likewise, those that say "Cali" seem to be living in ignorance of the fact that Cali is the name of one of the major cities of the Western Hemisphere, with a population of over 2 million people. But it's in Colombia (that's in South America for those who slept through social studies), not the U.S.

We are not the surfing type. For as long as I've lived in CT, I have never seen a wave big enough to surf or seen any store that sold surfing gear... Then again, I never went out looking for one either.
