This ridiculous claim, Is mainly coming from people who dislike the high cost of living, which who doesn't? And people losing there houses unfortunately. And as for the people and atmosphere? You have be the judge of that. I doubt you'll be able to find anyone that actually happy anywhere these days due too the economy + crime is everywhere you go, so no point in trying to escape it.

Stockton isn't a bad place at all, and this "being the worst city" is really being blown out of proportion by people who are either, scare of there own shadow, or just scare of anything that isn't the way they want it to be, like people who been in Stockton all there lives, and can't accept change. It has change a bit sense the last time I step foot in the city (5yrs), but it isn't bad. Modesto, which is close by, is bad compare too Stockton in my opinion. The city streets are ruin, and don't you dare get trap in the legal system there. You'll hang yourself before the day done.

Stockton is run down and downtrodden, but to give it some scant praise - given the choice of Stockton and places like Los Banos, Salinas, North Richmond, East Oakland, I'll take Stockton first. But even the worst parts of San Jose get a big leg up over any of them.

Default Love these people

I love you people who live in places other than Stockton, like San Jose. If you don't live here don't talk your SH..!

I work and live in Stockton. Yes there are other cities that compare better, like Tracy, Lodi. But both of these cities have been in the news. Tracy was voted one of the most safest cities to live in, has an area.....lets just say questionable. I was going to buy a condo and a CHP officer from Tracy told me he has 4 guns and would not live there.

The boy that was tortured on a noce quiet neighborhood on Tennis lane...i sold a $350K home there?

The italian restaurant AMORE had a gang shooting inside! So no city is safe. There are gangs and violence everywhere. As a community it is up to us to decide how much we will tolerate. I live in teh Weston ranch community, and it has it's problmes, but not half as much as other parts of Stockton. The residents do not tolerate gangs so they do not claim our Turf as theirs, but they do come in, tag our walls...WE repaint and push them out. We call "Our Finest" as soon as anything out of the norm happens and they respond and support us.

So if you don't live here, and don't know your facts, please do not run your mouth.

I too used to be sterotyped about Stockton...now that I live and work, and sell homes here I have a different opinion. Yes there are areas people may question and should....but there are a great areas too. You cannot compare us to Richmond or Oakland. I was a police officer and deputy sheriff in the bay area so know it well. No comparison..

good for you stay in Oklahoma...and you can take 1/2 the state with you. Too many free loaders who want everything and give nothing. I'll bet you move from Oklahoma and probably bad mouth it too.

Very true. Downtown almost looks straight out of the 1940's. Very walkable urban scale. Great potential if some more gentrification set in. Compared to Modesto's Downtown which was entirely razed in the late 60's and replaced with some rather poor quality civic center buildings. I know Stockton razed a lot as well, but they left a lot as well.

The crosstown freeway really blights the area though.

I grew up in a small town about 25 minutes from Stockton (we'd go there for major shopping like Costco, etc).
It actually has some nice parts, although, if you are considering moving there (if you haven't already--noticing the date of your post), send me a message about the areas you are considering and I can provide more information.
There are new developments and the city really is trying to clean up its image.

I live in Stockton and I'm 14 years old, don't worry i can have a decent and mature conversation.
Anyway, living in Stockton my whole short, little, life I can say so far it is bad, BUT if your raised here then its not as bad as it is to a newcomer. Stockton is like a person who comes on a little strong, but can get used to. There are crimes, heck, I live in the Conway Homes. I've seen a lot just saying that. South side Stockton is horrible, but I've grown accustomed to it. The only city I've ever felt "safe" in was probably Stockton. Maybe that is just because I am born here, I dunno.
