When most people think of Californias Central Valley (roughly the highway 99 corridor between Bakersfield and Sacramento), they think flat, boring, and unimaginative farmland. Granted, much of that stereotype isn't without merit.

However, the SJV DOES offer some nice scenic touches and feel. If you know where to find it.

So here are a few samples of California San Joaquin Valley as seen off the beaten path. All were taken by me. All are less than 25 miles from home in Tulare.

Of course your typical 'city' and suburban swellers (who are simply unable to function unless there is a Bed-Bath-And-Beyond or Mongolian Art Museum with a fish taco stand nearby) could care less about this and prefer concrete and high rises as their security blanket of choice.
But for those of us who do appreciate a change of scenery and can enjoy a narrow, tree lined road for what it is, here ya go.

Enjoy. Now just keep passing though.

Um... yeah... that's our SJ valley... except for that view of the mountains. We get that about 3 times a year and only after a severe thunderstorm.

Default Thanks for the Photos

Even though I am from the city and like Bed/Bath/Beyond and museums, I still enjoy, very much so, nature, mountains, lakes, trees, grasses, etc. This is a very beautiful area, thank you, again................

I get the impression that for many Californians who don't live in the SJ Valley, their perceptions are based off driving on I-5 between the Grapevine and Tracy. Not exactly an area that is known to be a haven of activity. Even CA 99 has a lot more to see than I-5, since it goes through cities.

Thanks for the photos of a generally unappreciated part of this great state of ours

Terrific photos. Thank you for posting them. Serves to remind folks that California is much more than Hollywood, beaches, the desert, and movie stars.

The Central Valley is cool. It has changed a lot, but I'm glad it still remains true to its roots. Also the cities are getting much better, notably Fresno.
