I'm not sure if David Aguilar was calling me a jerk or if someone else was calling him a jerk.
But don't use reputation comments (at least not on my profile) in such a way.
And, David A., if you're calling me a jerk in such a covert and wormy and cowardice way .... well, c'mon now. At least be a man about it and don't hide.
Bad form.

I guess you missed the "rolleyes" sarcastic smiley and the j/k "just kidding".

Sorry.

Sorry.
O.K ... but it's like smacking somebody and then apologizing.
It's a bit disingenuous.
I didn't insult you in my reply to your SoCal comment.
peace now.

You got it.

I'm sorry and I meant no offense, more like a playful, gentle punch to the arm.

We're moving on.

Hey! If Governor Ahnold can't even pronounce the name of the state, why are you getting on the OP for calling it Cali?

I don't know, can we start calling Delaware 'Deli"? It sounds just as ridiculous.

Yes, but it would be "Dela", as there is no "I" in Delaware, just like there is no "I" in TEAM.

I believe before the postal service went to two letters, the state abbreviation on mail was "Calif.". That was back when phone numbers began with a word as in (YUKON)5-5555. Anyway, "Cali" sounds childish. You could I suppose call it "Cal" but that would confuse it with my alma mater.

Thanks for all the financial advice, and the slang lesson, but does anyone have any advice about Southern California as per my original post?

Advice is very much appreciated.

Here's some advice from a former Long Islander

- lose the accent
- lose the Jersey attitude
- lose the hip-hop attire (if applicable)
- don't call it "cali"
- don't compare CA to NY area, as no one cares
- we call it the beach, not the shore
- never throw signs in public, even to be funny
- if you are Italian, learn to love Mexican food 'cause there ain't no good Italian food here
- stick to the central areas to start, suburbs are like a weird stepford scene out here
- if you are "direct" or "blunt" or "tell it like it is", everyone will hate you.
