I would check out Palm Desert and La Quinta. These are nicer areas.

Cat City has a lot of crime. It would be a good idea to read the Desert Sun every day to get a feel for the areas. mydesert.com | The Desert Sun | Palm Springs news, community, entertainment, yellow pages and classifieds. Serving Palm Springs, California

You would be better off to stay in La Quinta, Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, or Indian Wells. Some parts of Palm Springs and the Shadow Hills area of Indio are also good areas. There are more resorts/spas in the other areas than in Cat City too.
