It's in the boonies, and it's a party school(not much else to do there unless you like the outdoors)

It is a very nice university and both our girls graduated from Chico State. There is a charming historic downtown that surrounds the university and the restaurants and shops have that youthful vibe. Lots of art and every year the local artists have an open studio tour that is interesting if you like art. It is about 1.5 hours from Sacramento and the same for Redding/Mt. Shasta if you like snow. It is a "party" town and with that comes crime which has been on the increase with stabbings and robberies. You just need to be careful where you go at night and take some friends along. Up the ridge is a little mountain community called Paradise. You can rent cheaply there or even in Chico if you don't mind paying good rent for a closet or slum. I would rent in Paradise and drive the 18 miles down to the school. Enjoy.

It is no more a party town than other colleges in small towns. Bogus, It is a good school, great professors. Lots to do in town and out of town. Lassen Park is just up the road, there is a veritable river of students heading to Tahoe on the weekend. Running down to the city for the evening and back is not traumatic.

Chico like San Luis Obispo is full of people who came to go to school, liked it, never left.

Chico is great. My daughter goes there now and it's now on my list of potential places to live someday.

Hundreds of miles of rivers and creeks, and of course, Lake Oroville, and Almanor and Shasta.

-A lot of trashy people
-A lot of dopers and alcoholics
-STD's are rampant
-School is ok, if you have trouble graduating from Chico you need to get your head examined

If you have good self control and the school has a program that you are interested in then go for it. If you have an addictive personality, like to party all the time and have trouble with school work then don't. If one of your hobbies is not binge drinking then I am not sure that it is for you. Chico also gets a lot of out-of-town High School and community college students over the weekends to get there party on and start trouble. Most everything students do there involves heavy amounts of drinking and/or pot smoking.

"Let's go raft down the river"
"Yeah, let's get crossfaded and go down the river brah"

"Let's go get something to eat"
"Yeah, let's get ****faced and go get some grub"

So many drop outs end up being Chico lifers getting drunk and trying to get their bang on 24/7 and working some part time job living with 3 other people in a 2 bedroom apartment. It's an ok school but some employers might not give a degree from Chico that clout due to the reputation of the school. Good luck.

If you take what shope said, print it out, and throw it in the trash, You have done the right thing.

Again, it may be hard for some to believe, but some college students like to party, some don't. Some humans like to party, some don't.

To think that one school has more parties than another, is fairly silly.
