According to the Heritage Foundation, Canada's more economically conservative than the US although not by much:

Country rankings for trade, business, fiscal, monetary, financial, labor and investment freedoms

Heritage aren't exactly liberals.

And Canada didn't bail out its banks or other financial institutions and is just a token player in the auto bailouts.

I can live with economically moderate-conservative and socially liberal easily. OTOH economically liberal (in the modern sense) and socially conservative offers the worst aspects of both liberalism and conservatism without the good aspects of either.

California's even more well known for those things.

Don't blame the company for moving to Canada ; flight of the productive moneyed out of the US is definitely starting to happen.
