LOL at the comments...

OP is 44 years old and wealthy .. I don't think he is going to add to our welfare rolls. LOL This poor man will instead be trampled by capital gains taxes and 100 other taxes. Florida is a much nicer state to the pocketbook, but California is nicer on the surface.. TAKE YOUR PICK!

I like both states, but would definitely choose California. If you are single and well off, there is such a great variety of things to do California that you don't have in Florida. Beaches, mountains, deserts, rugged coastline, much more opportunities for outdoor activities. Winter is a bit milder in South Florida and the water is warmer, but that's about it.

Are you into older women? Then Florida is the place for you!
Unless you are living on South Beach in Miami....
California has more variety in many many ways.....

R66: I say you are welcome to the Golden State...I posted in your Fla. thread on this topic with my thoughts on the good points for each choice.

I happen to like both areas....but to steal a line from historian Carey McWilliams....So. Calif. is truly an "island on the land" with a truly unique geography for North America: deserts, mountains, and sea all within one metro area.

That said, check my response in the Fla. thread for a more balanced view....

Good luck.

I'm no Rookie to California. Been there did that from late 80s to 1996 but I was poor and unemployed. "High and dry" as we say in Florida... That said, looking to return with perhaps long term gameplan. Two weeks recently in Marina del Rey was not enough to decide. Points taken people, thanks. Thanks for your kind invite Mike.

Correction: The Words -> Well Off <-- in my Thread title should read ' Comfortable '.

Have a great evening everyone!

You could. But you'd be wrong. There is no agreed upon definition of what "overpopulated" is. Some of the richest countries in the world are densely populated, and so are some of the poorest.

Japan is the same size as CA and has more than 3x the people.

For the purposes of meeting attractive women, I would say stay in Florida. During the winter time an inordinate number of unattached attractive women seem to descend on Florida. You also have a fair amount of attractive women in Southern California (fewer in the SF bay area) but there are a lot more guys in California with both money and skills.

In terms of meeting women I have tended to be able to land younger more attractive women in Florida than I can in California. I also found them to be a lot cooler. In California the gender gap is less in your favor for meeting women and women are a little more full of themselves.

Now I actually prefer the climate in California, but for meeting women for short term liasons, my limited experience in Florida suggests that Florida is a much better choice.

Appreciate every response.

So, if I choose California, I know Los Angeles for 6 years in early 90s. I like LA big it's so huge!!! That said, where are viable communities for 40+ single people with outdoor hobbies, active lives, nearby beach big plus. Prefer small town feel but close to everything, beach, etc.

Marina del Rey is nice but very expensive. Is it worth it in the Marina?

LA county or Orange county?

The SF Valley is cool, homey, kinda cozy but now much to do w/endless urban sprawl.

Huntington Beach seems to have it all.

Venice Beach is cool but a lot 20s/30s people snobby, hollywood attitude, etc.

Have nice evening everyone!
