I don't know current schedule details, but the mixed-use retail project was slowed by the housing crash and tightened financing markets. That article was dated early 2007, and the economy soured not long after that.

Items related to the Fancher Creek mixed-use retail project were on city council agendas last year, so the project is still active.

The Fancher Creek retail portion is part of a much larger 500 acre master plan in the Sunnyside area of Fresno. The single family housing east of the planned retail has been continuing construction, as has the nearby industrial park.

You can get a better idea of the scope of the total Fancher Creek project on this map. The upscale retail will be on the left along Clovis Avenue.

The same developer's Campus Pointe mixed-use project adjacent to Fresno State is currently building, although later than originally scheduled.

At Campus Pointe they opened an upscale apartment complex last year and student oriented apartments just finished construction and are now renting. Next to be built (I understand it starts in the next 2 months) will be the Campus Pointe commercial area which includes retail/restaurants with offices and live-work lofts above. After that they will build active senior housing and a hotel at the site.

So my guess is the developer will finish the Fresno State project in the next year then move south to the Fancher Creek project.

The project will still happen, but quite a bit later than originally slated. FresnoFacts is correct.

Since this thread is only a few weeks old I thought I'd add an update.

Yesterday, the Fresno City Council approved the development agreement for the 95 acre retail/office/residential mixed use center for Fancher Creek.

As approved, the "Town Center" portion will consist of 1.2 million sq ft of commercial space including a theater plus 740 apartments/condos on the 95 acres.

That is many more housing units than originally scheduled. Adriatica probably knows but I believe they originally were talking about 250 units above the retail, then it went to about 550 and now it is up to 740 units to be located above the retail shops.

The developer currently expects to start infrastructure work late 2010/early 2011. That would possibly put construction of the first phase of buildings starting sometime next year.
