As a 'hard core' liberal. (closet moderate), I think Meg's (we're on a first name basis) commercials are in general clever and well produced.

If she was running anything other than Republican I'd probably vote for her.

"Job Killer"? There were far more jobs created under Brown than any of his successors and California had a budget surplus.

As for McCain if he'd picked (or, more accurately, if he'd been able to pick) a different VP he would have gotten far less crap....

Not true.. Under Jerry "Job Killer" Brown, California Public employees unionized which has successfully helped to bankrupt our state.. Jerry Brown also supports AB32, "The Global Warming Final Solutions Act" which, according to a Sacramento State study is set to kill up to 1 million jobs in the State of California..

That said, McCain picking Palin has really little to do with why Conservatives did not turn out for him.. McCain lost the conservative vote over his moderate stances..

Was CA out of cash when Brown was governor? No. The state ran big surpluses. In fact the antagonism towards Brown held by some liberals like Harold Meyerson is directly related to his fiscal conservatism while governor.

I'd have to read AB32 to make a judgment on it but given that global warming threatens to put a pretty large chunk of the state underwater it should be a concern of state government. The fact that California hasn't gotten enough green jobs has to do with its tax structure and its dependence upon fees as substitutes for taxes making the state very business-unfriendly across the board.

Picking an extremely polarizing figure as your VP, not to mention picking someone with very little experience or knowledge undercutting your whole message of experience and knowledge, is a very dumb move. Not to mention that it lost him the moderate vote - there were a HUGE number of people, whether it be moderate Republicans, independents, or Dems, who would've voted for him with a different VP. Palin was only good for bringing out the social conservatives, the horny old men, and the 18 year old boys with MILF fantasies. There were some Republicans I knew who'd never voted for a Dem in their lives before Obama - why do you think that was? Ideological purity doesn't win elections even if combined with T&A

The only circumstance I could see myself voting for Meg Whitman is if she takes two positions which she has not. First, if she comes out in favor of legalizing weed - which would be a massive flip-flop on her part, as she's as hardline of a "drug warrior" as her campaign manager Pete Wilson, and has donated money to defeating drug reform measures. She's way more anti-marijuana than Arnold or Jerry. (In fact, I plan on voting for Tom Campbell against Boxer because he's better on marijuana issues). The second being if she comes out in favor of abolishing LAUSD and forbidding any school district in California from serving more than 100K kids without being broken up (which would only affect LAUSD, San Diego and Long Beach), charterized, or privatized. For me to vote for her, she would have to hold the first position I mentioned and it would help even more if she held the second position I mentioned.
