Hello all Im looking for some answers about what that best place in cali will be for me.My situation is that I am a Army spouse and my husband has a deployment coming up and i would like to move to Cali from Texas.I need to know what the best place is to live with two small children and be relatively safe doing things like walking them to the park or go for a jog(i do have a concealed weapon permit in texas so im not too picky just dont want to have to use it).I will be all alone(i am used to it i come from a very smile and not close family until i meet new people so an area with good childcare and things to keep us busy would be just awesome.I will be looking for a job but dont need to have one just want extra saving/spending money.

I am looking for a small town feel with the "things to keep us busy" no more then an hour away by car,( rent is not a problem as the army pays BAH to match the cities cost of living)i just dont want to spend all the money they give on rent. Also i am only 23 so i would like to meet like aged mothers if you are and live in cali please help me.

Thanks to everyone who can help me out.

California is a big and diverse state.
Do you have any sense where in the state you want to live?
What kind of climate?
Do you need to be near the ocean?
Mountains?
Desert?
Are you thinking Southern California? Northern? Any idea about that?
etc..
more info.
And the army will pay for any amount of rent?!
There must be some limit .. yes ?

You'll have to reapply for that once you move to California. Here in California CCW permits are issued by the Sheriff of the county of your primary residence. Some do, some don't. This is a "may issue"
state, not a "will issue" state.

So is your husband PCSing to CA from Texas? I'm kind of confued by your post? Are you moving here only for his deployment, or are you PCSing here on new orders? Where is he stationed out of now? Because if he's staioned in Texas, you will only get Texas BAH NOT CA. It's where the service member is staioned at.
If your a little more specific on your move then I can help you more. I am a Navy spouse stationed here in Socal.

California is a very large state, not as big as Texas but probably more diverse so you will have to be a little more spacific. As for rentals, I have known many people in the military and I do think there is a limit as to where you would be able to live, especially since you are deciding to relocate on your own. Maybe I am wrong, but I think you need to check this out a little closer.

Anyway, decide what is really important, do you want the northern part of the state or the southern, do you want to be near the beach or inland? There are lots of things to consider before people can give you too much help..

Thanks to your husband for his service to our country.

Nita

that is what I thought, I didn't think a person could just choose to live anywhere regardless and expect the military to pay the rent...From past experiences, family and friends, I thought the COL had to do with where the person was stationed..
