Yes, it IS this bad but that isn't going to stop the next 100 dreamers from posting their "Another Move to Cali" threads.

LOL!!.... although one could also argue that it's the "dreamers" and "immigrants" (of all kinds) who have helped bring new life and energy here, while the increasing dominance of the "native-born" types has also coincided with more "entitlements".... not just to social services, but also to larger retirement packages, union contracts, more prisons, prop. 13, "no new taxes", etc.. Now that we've been here awhile, we all start to expect the "good life".... for free!

I didnt fully blame the unions. The unions (teachers, public & prison) do own the legislature. If they tell them to jump the legislature say how high. If a union member says "BOO" the legislature runs & hide. At least govenor benedict arnold tried to do something but it failed. The public unions are too powerful in ca. It cost 50k a yr in ca to house a prisoner. A good portion of that money is to pay the guards & admin salaries & pensions. In fl & tx it cost 19k-20k a yr. I dont trust any govt in ca & never will.

My condo was 400K and My property tax is $5600 per year. Rich people find a way to write off everything and pay less taxes.

I believe Ultrarunner is in Oakland, CA.

Your $600k house in Texas would be at least $1.5M in CA and you'd still pay a ton in taxes.

Yes... Oakland CA.

Statewide Tax is 1% and then add special assessments and the rate is nearly 1.5%
