Jerry Brown has been a long time supporter of a flat tax, although he hasn't talked about it during this campaign. Probably because Arnold's proposal for reducing the number of tax brackets and flattening the tax system got killed by the legislature (by both parties).

In a CA context, both the Republicans and Democrats in that period were both solidly centrist.

Although in many ways the CA of that era seems like almost a different state...

I think a very large number in the military are actually Blacks and Latinos [both groups of Americans soundly reject the Republican party due to it's racist base = GOP is "Party of the South"]. Anytime the word "patriot" is mentioned the Teabagger\ radical right come to mind & they are anything but patriot [anti-American militias].

Regarding Poizner, whether we agree or disagree with his anti-immigrant statements [I tend to agree, btw] the convention wisdom is that any anti-immigrant comments come back to bite Republicans in the butt in California. As a Latino, I know the knee-jerk reaction aganist Republicans who use this issue & why Hispanics, as a whole, automatically vote Democratic. Republicans have totally destroyed any chance of gaining Latino votes in California [which are a very large part of the state] when they utter anything anti-immigrant [good or bad they lose].
The Republican party has a racist base? What a bunch of bull. As is your accusation that it's the party of the south. What the heck does that mean? Have you forgotten DEMOCRAT Senator Byrd?

And as for blacks and latinos rejecting the Republican party - it's more like they embrace the Democrat party. After all, how else do they keep their entitlements flowing.

The fact that you're a latino proves that even minorities can be racists, despite what your beloved/hypocritical Democratic party shrieks.

Both parties may be to blame, but I think we can all agree that the left is much more guilty. Between their insane environmental policies, anti-business policies, union deals, entitlement programs that spend more than they take in, and obsession with raising taxes, they can take full responsibility. The fact that they are full steam ahead with raising taxes, sweetheart deals, and pet projects shows how out of touch they are. At least Meg has some fiscal sense. And don't throw out old Arnold - he's more leftie than most Democrats.

If you are just now hearing that the GOP is referred to as the "party of the South" then anything else you write is uninformed. It helps if you follow election trends. But your slander against other races only confirms how much you are a part of the "Party of the South" and not any sort of credible Californian!

California is the way it is in large part to gerrymandering of districts. And so what about a recession. It shouldn't matter. During the years of huge revenue, the state just spent and spent and spent.

This conservative that is leaving the state shortly won't be complaining from afar. I'll be watching as the once-great state of California sinks into bankruptcy. But it will barely register with me.

Most states are in some form of deficit, you can run but you can't hide. In case you haven't noticed this is a countrywide problem.

Are you reading what you write? first of all:

1. Yes, anyone who's been actively involved in our election process by voting and keeping track of results knows that the republicans are the party of the south without having to be told that. That should be abundantly obvious!

2. blacks and latinos have rejected the republican party because the party has rejected them, save a few tokens here and there whom they bring out when needed (the current chairman being black when we got a black president is one example). What's interesting about that is that many Latinos were supporters of republicans until recently, when it became clear that the party didn't care to really acknowledge them. Latinos gave republicans a real chance. It's reasons like these why the party appears racist as well as many white supremacist, who openly call themselves republican and the party does nothing to try to separate themselves from such scum.

3. Go ahead and watch California sink. Considering that California has the largest GDP and that over 8 billion dollars Ca. pays in taxes is never returned to the state, let's see how well the nation does if California can no longer help subsidize the poorer states (that 8 billion has to be going somewhere).
