Hey there!

I'm an East Coast country gal lost in the Western city life, and want to get out! Currently in San Jose, and hating it! I've been living in CA since 2006, and love it, but prefer a slower pace of living. I need to go back to school to finish a degree in Nursing that was only started, but never finished. Really not comfortable with the big Universities and Colleges here locally. I've visited and spent some leisure time in Redding's Area, and absolutely felt "at home". I'd much rather work a s**t job and live in a place I love, than work a s**t job, and hate living where I do!

I'm curious, after reading all the posts on employment or lack of....I don't really have a said skill set, besides Administrative. I just want to be able to find a job or 2 that pays my bills. With that being said, are there ANY jobs open, or are there NONE at all? San Jose literally has NONE at all!

Also, I have a 3 year old German Shepherd, and so have concerns bout finding a place to rent with her. Do you think this will be a problem for us?

I'm not worried bout the heat, as she and I are from Pine Valley, CA; so we are used to it!

Any help is greatly appreciated, and thanks for lookin us up!

Since Redding is about 160 miles north of Sacramento, I moved your thread to the California Forum.

Redding isn't the best OR the worst place to live. You already understand about the heat and the limitations of a small city. Redding is near some spectacular country and I make a couple of trips over myself every year just to walk the Sundial Bridge. You've got a JC where you can pick up some college units and you're only an hour from Chico should you decide to go for a degree. Job listings in the paper("Searchlight?" -can't recall) and the CALJOBS on the EDD website may help. Re:the dog,it will be a problem no matter where you move. Landlords just don't like dogs or cats, which is a bit unfair because in my experience as a landlord dogs were far less smelly and destructive than cats. . Good luck to you!

Howdy WhiskeyGirl03...

I've never lived in Redding, but i've fished in Lake Shasta & Whiskeytown Lake, etc, & i passed thru the area quite a bit. Around WT Lake ya mite be able to find a more rural mobile or trailer, etc to rent. Maybe a cabin.

I don't know about available jobs but it might be worthwhile to apply with the casino in Redding & the one in Corning.

We lived in the Monterey area several lustrums & folks always talked about how the property prices in Redding were the most reasonable in CA.

My brother got his degree at Chico State. There are some more rural rentals around there, back then.

Best of Luck to you, in your choices to be made.

there aren't any jobs in redding ... unempolyment is bad here right now .. you might have better luck in the summer .. and most likely if you do get a job it won't pay well...

Redding is more of a European city, like Prague or Milan
