V. =)
More than a few homeowners I know that joined the California exodus were in shock to learn the hard way about Property Tax increases.

Property Tax in California is generally very predictable... you start at market with yearly increases limited to 2%.

Neighboring States like WA and OR do not have this predictability. Many in Washington were rudely surprised last week to learn the in the Assessor's opinion the value of their property had increased anywhere from 30 to over 100% in one year... OUCH!

Something to keep in mind when retiring to one of these State, especially if you have owned your home for many years.

I dunno. I guess you'd have to check with Caltrans.

I lived in many places before I moved to California so, I agree.

Also ... when you read the forums in other states, people are complaining about the same things ... crime, traffic, panhandlers, etc. With the exception of housing prices, a lot of it looks like the same complaints here.

There is no utopia no matter where you live.

I've been to some of those other cities where people complain about traffic. They have no idea how bad it is here. Its not even in the same league.

I moved away to Texas and I'm counting the days until I move back to California.

Default Also counting days to move back

My husband and I live in Oregon. We were both born and raised in California. We came up here right after we got married for grad school and we have learned to call it home and settle in. We have been here for a little over 2 years now. But, I graduate in May and we can't wait to move back.
Why?

#1 priority- WEATHER
nice coastal towns
family
friends
good surf

I guess we are just Californians at heart and the high cost of living is worth it to us. I would rather live in a 900 sf shack in a coastal central or southern California town that a mansion in Portland.
