[LEFT]Get it done already. LOL

A study released Wednesday says 60,000 new jobs could be created in California through the solar industry by 2016.

In the country overall, 200,000 solar-related jobs could be created in that time frame, according to the study by the Solar Energy Industries Association.

In a release that included Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and industry leaders, the study projected a two-year extension of the Department of Treasury Grant Program.

The study also projects 10 gigawatts of new solar installations by 2016, or enough to power 2 million homes.

In 2009, the study says, about 17,000 solar-related jobs were created.
There are a number of Silicon Valley companies in the association, including Los Gatos-based Akeena Solar Inc., and Fat Spaniel Technologies Inc. and OnGrid Solar Inc., both of San Jose.

Hire ten million people to dig holes and ten million others to fill them. Will have just about the same effect as these global warming alarmist programs.

Keep dreamin. When Obama signed the green jobs bill that was supposed to create jobs. The only flaw is most of the wind turbines and solar panels are being made in China.

Yet they are going to be designed here, installed here, maintained here and sold here.

You can rest assured that the wages made by Engineers, Installers and Maintenence folks here in the US is going to several times more than the meager wage being paid to workers to make them in China.

So, there is still a huge silver lining in your otherwords gray cloud.

The design doesn't create any jobs. Do you think each windmill has a custom design? More likely the design is already programed into a CAD/CAM machine.

The installatio will create a few jobs. Of course the question remains, who will be doing the installation????

Like you said, the folks here in the US are going to make sevaral times what the workers are being paid in China. Now if you are an American energy supplier who would you hire to do the work, the Americans that are making several times more or the foreigners that are cheaper?

In case you have not read the papers, that is the problem with the green jobs bill. The foreigners are cheaper and the work is going to the foreigners. American workers are sitting at home and the work is going to the Chinese. Obama helped create jobs for the Chinese.

I doubt very seriously we are going to be importing chinese people to install and maintain the solar products. haha

No, it will be Americans.

And if it can still churn out 60,000 good paying jobs in California then I think its worth it and support it.

Excellent! Jobs aren't the primary benefit, it's reduced reliance on imported power (and lower power bills). Enron taught us this years ago. With higher production the hope is lower costs too. Right now, solar panels are really cost-prohibitive even with the rebates. For full power coverage on an average 3BR home it's $35K-$40K+. Still too pricey, and a positive return on investment isn't realized for years.

I can't believe I forgot about this:

Anyone whose ever driven recently on 880 between Fremont and Milpitas has seen the massive construction going on at Solyndra. A huge solar panel maker that will be increasing its workforce from 1,000 to 3,000 shortly.

And President Obama will be visiting next week.
