There is now a difference of over $1,800 annually (not $200) between the highest and lowest individual campus fees. (compare Long Beach and SLO) Things have changed.

For example, San Luis Obispo added nearly $1,000 just for a facility/services fee but several campuses added nothing for that.

An interesting comparison is the two Cal Polys. The SLO campus charges over $1600 more in campus fees than Pomona.

Also some campuses have special fees that vary by major on that campus.

This next link that I also posted up thread compares all fees and living expenses for all the campuses. Living costs are a big consideration besides fees between the campuses.

CSU | Student Academic Support | Campus Costs of Attendance for 2009-2010

Thanks for posting that. It has been a few years since I've looked up the differences in cost. It will help a few people make decisions between campuses.

Looking at that chart makes me wonder why more students don't question the differences in fees. Why does CSU, SLO charges so much more than other campuses for facilities fees? Does CSU, Chico offer anything more for the $696 Student Body Center fee? That is quite a chunk of change for the students who attend classes and do nothing else on campus.

Nearly all the fees were voted on by past students. So it is majority rules, even though usually the campus vote turnout is very small. Of course many of the fees took effect after the students voting yes graduated so they were not going to pay them.

Chico's Student Body Center fee was increased by $350 to pay for the new student recreation center they opened a year ago. I don't know why so much though, Fresno State only increased fees by $100 to pay for its rec center that opened 4 years ago. I believe both are roughly the same-sized building so I don't know why the difference in fees.

The SLO fees include an average of their "college academic" fees. The different majors at Cal Poly have individual special fees with the revenue used only in that school/college/field to pay for extras. A student in one of the liberal arts majors will pay about $300 less per year than a business major for example due to the difference in perceived needed extras.

Unfortunately with the lovely budget cuts from our Governor, it isn't so easy to get into University right now. Amazes me how he obtained his education here which afforded him his current position and then he has the nerve to pull the funding which ultimately closed down all non-academic classes at the Community College, and closed the door of entry into University for me. Say goodbye to "access to a quality education from kindergarten through graduate school for all Californians who have a desire to learn" right...... CSULB isn't even accepting applications for the spring semester.. this is a travesty...... Thanks for nothing ARnold

It's not an issue of money anymore. It's an issue of not being able to get in.

They've impacted many majors.... adding comptetive admissions criteria, raised the GPA, and pretty much closed the doors on people with learning disabilities because once thrown into the general pool, you won't get accepted... Can't use an appeal process for special consideration because they're not accepting applications the following semester.... We've been targeted... and framed... and denied our right to an education.... HELP!!!
