This may sound strange, but I would like to have a good, sturdy, non-leaking portable toilet as a back-up toilet for my house. I have one bathroom on my main floor and could store the portable "john" in the spare bedroom. I had a great portable unit in my lakeside shed for years but can't remember the brand. I think I got rid of it when I moved to my new house. I simply don't go down to that property any more either. (I've been trying to sell it but it's a slow mover for some reason.)

Anyway, I've looked at the Thetford Curve unit, but there are complaints about the battery flush pump giving out pretty quickly. The manual Thetford doesn't seem to be available here, and I need a high height unit (I'm old and stiff, lol.) So please, keep that in mind for your recommendations. I've got Amazon Prime and I've looked at just about every model on that site; they all seem to have one problem or another. TIA for your personal recommendations if you have them - I'm particularly interested in ease of cleaning and no leaking.

Have a look at the medical commode units - nice and high. Come equipped with one container and a lid, but you can buy as many as you wish for it. Lightweight aluminum with a plastic seat, and legs are adjustable for height. They even make bags that fit the container. Can be had for $35 - $40 and up, on Amazon. A 5-gallon bucket can be used underneath instead. Sturdy handles to help with rising.

In a house? I'd go for something that foregoes flushing (and weird chemicals) altogether. Like a Nature's Head.

No fiddly plumbing to worry about.

The Bumper Dumper | " The Original Hitch Mountable Portable Toilet "

Bumper dumper is good & simple for a backup. I've kept one on my boat before. If it doesn't have enough height for you, you could build a small box to sit it on.

I'd just get one of the medical chairs, as mentioned and then use bags with kitty litter in them, so you don't have to deal with cleaning something out.

As others said above, go (ha ha) with one of the simple folding seats that uses disposable bags. The bags wrap over the top of the seat, so it stays clean. Various chemicals are available (some bags have premeasured powder inside) so the liquids are gelled and the bag can be disposed in any dumpster.
