You can also cook your food in foil packets over a grill.

But I agree. At some point, I wonder where the bright line is between camping and "dragging your entire house along with you to a campground." Why work so hard? For me the point of camping is to progressively rely on less and less things, not more and more.

I scrape the crud out, light a fire and then scrape the grill and cook. Been doing it for over 40 years- still 6' up and not down.

Nothing cleans like fire.

Once it burns off there's no taste imparted to whatever is being grilled and it's sterilized.
