I'm planning to take the bus (Greyhound) from NYC and visit Montreal for only a day trip. I never been to Canada and have always dreamed about visiting Montreal and a french speaking region.

I do have U.S. passport and I'm 20 years old.

I'm planning to go there early morning and be back by late evening... I'm happy to go around Montreal for couple of hours

Has anyone done this? Does the bus make short stops on the way? Bad idea? Please give me advice.

You can take the Neon bus. It'll be pretty cheap if you order online in advance. Greyhound NeOn

Why only go for a day? Why not a whole weekend? You could stay at the Montreal Y Hotel downtown. It's cheap but comfortable and clean.

A day trip is not a good idea, it will take you at least 7hrs from NYC to Montreal by Greyhound.

And NeOn is the same as Greyhound, to get the "special NeOn" price you need to book months and months in advance.

Staying at least one night would make more sense! Just stay at a cheap hostel and make better use of your money and time. 2nights even better.

Not worth it for a day trip. I'd say leave on a friday, stay for a night or two, and return on a sunday.
