Hi I know that when I have a job, prescription drugs are covered a great deal and I only have to pay a small amount out of my pocket.

I was wondering what happens if a person is unemployed?

Yes, you have to pay the full amount for perscriptions. If you have to spend a lot in medication there may be avenues of help, depending on the province (such as the Trillium Drug Program in Ontario). Talk to your doctor and pharmacist about it. If you can't get any subsidy you can claim it on your income tax return if the amount is high enough.

That is just one of the reasons that social assistance is sometimes better than EI. They pay for your drugs and even some dental.
