My fiancee and I have plans on moving soon and as U.S citizens we are thinking of moving to Canada. As our French is very poor what would be the best province/city to find work in for us? We originally wished to move to Montreal, but having done some research, work for us would be quite impossible to find or rather, too many doors will be shut for us.

Further reading recommended cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, western provinces.

Thank you.

Just look at cities outside Quebec and the lack of French wont be an issue.

Thank you for the rather quick response. Are there any other opinions because as always, the more the better. I appreciate it.

If French or lack thereof is a concern, then pick a location outside of Quebec and parts of New Brunswick

I'd also add Ottawa. It's in Ontario, but the city has a significant French population and many jobs are government jobs where bilingualism is a big asset. Anywhere else in Ontario, with the possible (I've never been there) exception of Sudbury, would work fine, as would any place at all to the West of Ontario. PEI, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland are also places your lack of French would not be a problem. It also wouldn't be a problem in certain parts of New Brunswick. Atlantic Canada can be a bit depressed economically though, so if you wanted to move to one of those Eastern provinces you'd likely want to find work first. Alberta is booming, but I'd really recommend thorough research of any specific province you'd want to move to first to make sure the local culture is one you want to move to because Canada is very regionalised (as i'm sure you probably know).

You don't need to speak French in Ottawa. But I guess employment opportunities are better if you do; employment with the federal government usually requires it.

On what basis will you be moving? Are you applying for Permanent Residence, or looking for temporary work permits, or what?
