Hello I heard that "MaryJane" is legal in Ontario, is that true?

You heard wrong.

It's still against the Criminal Code of Canada to posess or traffic marijuana.

There was some talk amongst politicians recently that it could be decriminalized at some point in the future. That would essentially mean that small amounts would result in a summons and a fine, rather than in a criminal record.

So far, that hasn't happened.

When I vacationed in Niagara Falls, there was a place called "Hightimes smoke shop" with marijuana leaves on the front, displayed quite publicly on the road. I also saw people smoking pot in Toronto a bit more freely than I do down here in Florida...

Can't say that comes as a shock, fort lauderdale.

Unlike many places in the US, it isn't illegal to sell waterpipe, bongs, fancy rolling papers, etc.

Canandian cops are also less likely to treat possession of a single joint like a hanging offence. Many times an officer will merely destroy the joint and issue a warning. On the other hand, the officer still has the option of making life a little tougher for an offender if the officer is so inclined.

Marijuana trafficing and grow operations are regarded very seriously by law enforcement officials and offenders are fully prosecuted.

Correct, and I couldn't have said it better.

If you are caught smoking or have a small amount with you, more than likely nothing will happen at all... simply destruction of the weed and you go home..

I don't think the U.S. is anywhere near that point yet...

I was in Toronto recently and was really surprised at the amount of people I saw smoking marijuana freely on the streets or the park. Though the amount that I saw for the entire duration of my vacation could be counted on less than two hands it is more than you will ever see in the USA. When I think of it, if you were caught smoking weed on the streets or anywhere in the USA you would be handcuffed, roughed up tossed in jail, possibly granted bail until your hearing.

WHAT?!?

People in my highschool used to "smoke-up" on the sidewalk all the time in front of the highschool, which is also facing a big police station just across the street.

They smoked there because smoking (of all kinds) was not allowed on school property. The sidewalks are considered city property so therefore smoking on them was not breaking any rules or laws.

I suppose the teachers just assumed the people who smoked there were only smoking tobacco, or some simply might not have cared what they smoked as long as it was rolled.

It wasn't there job to find out what they were smoking is my guess.

Just move to any city that has a pot club, get a phoney doctors note saying you need it for depression or some other reason and go buy your pot.
