I'm not sure how grad programs work in Canadian schools for US (international?) students. Also, can my g/f who's on US Soc. Sec. Disability here in US come w/ me & get checks in Canada, from her USA SSDI?

Can I get any grad tuition aid from the USA's US Dept. of Educ., as a citizen of US, or am I on my own to fund the grad program & all living expenses while attending?

Thanks for either question info help.

She gets SSDI direct dep. here in her bank, but how long will US send electronic funds to Canadian banks while she stays w/ me? Does she need special visa, etc.? I assume I need student visa for me but I'm just thinking about this idea, so have no clue how this works. I'm an older nontrad so it has been awhile since I was in school in USA.

Your girlfriend will not be able to accompany you to Canada on your student visa unless you qualify as common-law spouses under Canadian immigration law (and can prove co-habitation). Check the CIC website for details on "accompanying common-law partners" and student visas.

Just want to add, that if your girlfriend qualifies as a spouse, there may be another hurdle to bringing her with you if she has a medical condition that could possibly impose a burden on the Canadian medical system. I don't know the particulars of your situation, but you should look into it.

Thanks to you both. We may have to remain stateside & go to school here then. I see this getting complicated & thus maybe not worth the hassle. But any further info would help.

Yes, she is on Soc. Sec. Dis. in USA & gets Federal Medicare (health insurance full coverage) & state Medicaid (state of AZ pays all Federal Medicare's premium monthly, & among other things like pays most meds other than a small monthly co-pay she pays out of pocket) while living here as a current resident of AZ (as all elderly, blind or disabled do in the USA on Federal SSDI benefits).

Yet, I have no idea how that'd work to be able to see a doc, get her meds monthly covered, etc. in Canada. Anyone I should contact to clarify these questions? Thanks again.

The place to start asking questions would be with the appropriate federal and state agencies in the US to clarify what their policies say about out of country payments, etc.

The next step would be to clarify Canadian admissibility issues through www,cic.gc.ca
