Good day to everyone, i have some questions that i need answered and to maybe stop my worry.

about 6 years ago i worked in Ottawa, on a work permit. Now i was stupid and young and got arrested for DUI which i admitted and lost my licence and got a charge of $600 and years suspension on my licence. Now as i was on a work permit and it was about to finish i left the country without paying my fine thinking i would never return to canada.

Alas i am now engeged to a canadian women and looking into moving to canada in the near future. I have visited canada a few times since i left.

But the real question is when i'm filling in the immagration application do i admit to my mistake or do i leave it in the hope that i will no longer have a record.

As in the U.k most criminal records are wiped after 5 years.

Get your Canadian lady friend to contact a Canadian lawyer for an opinion.

You don't want to jump through all the necessary immigration hoops and pay the various fee$ only to find you're ineligible.

It also wouldn't be a great situation if you managed to sneak under the immigration radar, received Permanent Resident's status, established a life in Canada, only to be pulled over by a cop who then trundles you off to jail for an outstanding warrant.

As far as records being wiped clean after 5 years, our local paper ran a Letter to the Editor just this past week from a fellow complaining about having to pay a fine generated by an offence committed 16 years ago.
