I'm thinking of a young Aussie man who has at least the rudimentary knowledge of French working at a bar in a more urban experience; I cannot think of a better place than Bishop or Crescent Streets in Montreal to ply your tradecraft of bartending to begin with and then slowly moving to other hospitality oriented areas also slightly more culturally francophone, such as areas of St. Denis or Duluth streets.

Then of course you could really go native and head for Quebec City or better yet, the Eastern Townships.

Should you overcome your aversion to snow and it's attractions; a winter spent tending bar in Mont Tremblant and enjoying the company of the snow bunnies there might finish you off for returning to Aussie land altogether.
Pretty good advice. Plus, as an Aussie who speaks a bit of French, you will be a bit of an oddity and even exotic (people in Quebec don't expect Aussies to speak any French), all of which is a big plus with the ladies!

That's the very thing i had in mind with him working at a pub like Hurley's or even Thursday's at the Hotel de la Montagne and welcoming the ladies with a "g'die sheila's, what'll it be, did'ya kiss the elephant's butt on the way through the lobby?"

He'd have 'em eating out of the palm of his hand if he then switched to french, with any accent at all, to take their orders.

Were it my bar, I'd hire him for the draw alone.
