Traffic lights look differently across Canada. There is no Canadian universal. It varies depending on city and province.

I have read somewhere once before that yellow traffic lights are easier for people to see them. Makes sense I suppose. And in Canada with all the snow and such, yellow traffic lights might be more noticeable.

Most of downtown St. John's has black rod iron traffic lights, while the rest of the city and province have your typical yellow horizontal lights.
