I'm new to the boards and I'd like to pose a question.
I am in the final stages of the Canadian Permanent Residence application process. Presuming that my application is approved in the next month or two, I expect to be given until August 2008 (one year from medical) to immigrate.
I don't intend to make that move until July 2008, so my question is can I travel to Canada next spring to do some groundwork for my move after I am issued a permanent residence visa, without going through the process of landing as a PR? The idea is to land as a visitor (as I usually do) and spend two or three weeks in April/May, then return to Canada (GTA) in July to stay.
Does anyone know if this will cause problems/complications?
I Dont See Any Problem With That As Long That You Have The Tourist Visa. When You Got Your Pr The Embassy Will Still Give You Some Time Before You Move To Canada.
Why bother. You just land once you get the landing paper. You are not forced to live there after you land, which theoretically means you can finish the landing process (takes 15 minutes) and then take the next plane to come back from where you are.
In your case, you can just land and spend sometime, and then go back. You only need to spend 2 years during the 5 years after you land in canada.
I'm confused. I think anyone can visit Canada at any time up to 6 months with just a passport. No???
Um, no.
Citizens of the US and a select group of other countries may enter Canada as a vistor and stay for a period of up to 6 months at the discretion of an immigration officer. However, there is a group of countries whose citizens require a pre-approved visa to enter Canada even as a visitor.
More to the point, the Original Poster has applied, from outside Canada, to become a Permanent Resident of Canada with the intention of residing in Canada permanently. The OP's PR application is still being processed, but he/she would like to visit Canada before the application is approved.
Her concern is that entering Canada as a visitor while her PR application is in process may affect her PR application.
So far, no convincing answer was posted for this question. I believe the original question was "can I travel to Canada ... to do some groundwork for my move after I am issued a permanent residence visa, without going through the process of landing as a PR? The idea is to land as a visitor (as I usually do) and spend two or three weeks in April/May, then return to Canada (GTA) in July to stay."
Could anyone help answering this question? I am in the similar situation right now, and wish to visit Canada for a few days to to do some ground work before I actualy "land." I wish to wait for the "landing" until I am ready. How is the border immigration woudl treat me?
