Who remembers Guy Lombardo?
Or maybe you remember your grandparents listening and dancing to his music?

Zellers is being resurrected: https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/hbc...lers-1.6553473

I'm actually glad to see a discount chain that will be coming back to many Canadian downtowns via The Bay's footprint.

Zeddy, come back, all is forgiven...

Interesting! The best part of Zellers for me was the little restaurant they had there. I always persuaded my mom to bring me in for something to eat but more specifically for an Ice Cream Float.

I wish them well but if they are going to just bring back the model they had closer to their demise, I don't think they'll be too successful. Now if they become a true U.S style Target like competitor to Walmart, there may be some hope. We'll see.

When the local Zellers here in my town closed down the store was taken over by Target and Target was awful. Target failed very soon and was replaced by Walmart which is sort of okay, but the stuff WM sells is poor quality, only just okay and their customer service sucks because they skimp on availability of employees and cashiers. I'd be happy to see Zellers come back again with good customer service and goods that are better quality than Target or Walmart even if Zellers followed the same model they had from before they left. I miss Zellers.

One of the big criticisms of Target when they came up here was that they didn't have the same selection of goods or at least a similar selection as in the U.S. Canadians were expecting a U.S type Target and didn't get it, so there was a huge disappointment. I think they also had some supply issues due to poor planning and expanded too quickly, basically biting off more than they could chew in a market they didn't understand.

In any event I have vague memories of Zellers other than the Ice cream floats lol. My recollection is they did have a better clothing and footwear section than Walmart - which isn't very hard to accomplish. Heck, whatever they become I wish them well and i'll give em a whirl, if one opens up near me. With inflation what it is these days though, I won't be paying more for the same goods I can get in the existing retail mileau.
