Voulez vous anglais? You seem to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder. This isn't America. Your post is nonsensical. English is not the only language of Canada.

So if I ask someone their race, they say "I'm an American, of Indian descent"??? No, they don't.

They say "I'm Indian-American" or just plain old "Indian". Just like up here.

LOL I realized I had mistyped my last wee bit 'o francais.

So, why did you ask if I lived in Canada?? I asked about English because I thought it was the "official" language. No? I know it's not "the only" but is it "official"?

Because you had no point of reference in the part I bolded - you stated "you live here" - Americans can live in Canada and I was unclear as to whether you were an American living in Canada or not.

English and French are both official languages of the government of Canada. We are an officially bilingual country, so when you say you hope the Canadian government stays the way it is, the way it is is officially bilingual. French and English. One does not have an official kind of precedent over the other.

ETA (Acajack is going to love me today :-))

I would seriously like you to elaborate on that. Canada was desperate - Canada needed to fill up the west in order to prevent a possible American invasion. Doesn't change the fact that the government made promises and none of them were about assimilation into an anglo culture.

I meant I hoped that your government didn't pass laws that forced whitey to be PC while whitey can be verbally abused.

Whaaaa??? Wow, I never heard we were going to "invade" western Canada! My mother wanted to buy land for $11 an acre up somewhere near the NWT but dad said "no way!" Conversely, when Oz was looking for Yanks to move there, Dad wanted to and Mom said "no". BTW, how has the Yanks "invasion" gone for Oz?? Perrty darned well I would say.

I suggest you read up on your history. Even a current restaurant in Stanley Park, The Fish House mentions the former threat on their webpage when talking about the history of the park.

"In 1886, the first city council of the burgeoning port city of Vancouver petitioned the Federal Government for the lease of an undeveloped 1000 acre peninsula from Burrard Inlet to English Bay. Prior to that time, the area went through a succession of uses, including Government occupation against possible US invasion and logging."

Also my province of British Columbia was originally going to be call New Caledonia but was not and British Columbia chosen to send a message to the U.S. that his was British territory, since the threat of invasion existed.
