These two cities have very hot summers. Kelowna has very hot and dry summers and Toronto has hot and humid summers. Which climate do you prefer and why? Which do you like better, Kelowna heat or Toronto heat?

I don't like heat but I'd choose dry heat over humid heat if I was forced to make a choice. It's healthier and doesn't put as much strain on the body.

Thanks for your opinions. I prefer humid heat. I don't see how dry heat is healthier really. It just makes your skin itchy and dry and lips chapped. Not too healthy for me. But, humidity helps greenery, plants grow, creates rainfall and makes it feel tropical and comfortable imo. It may be more comfortable but I enjoy the humidity. A steam room is more comfortable to me than an oven XD I also really enjoy occasional thunderstorms.

Speaking for my own preferences, I like cool temperatures with low to medium humidity and not cool crisp dryness, and I prefer a steam room over a dry sauna, but just for a short period of time. Humidity within reason does help greenery, keeps everything lush and green and it's much healthier for the skin. Too much humidity with heat can cause opposite effects, with molds and mildews on plants, fungal infections, parasitic infections and rashes on the skin.

I guess it depends on how much heat and the percentage of humidity you're comfortable with but high heat combined with a high percentage of humidity does put more strain on a person's body and makes them more susceptible to heat exhaustion. Your internal body temperature will get hotter in the shade and you will sweat more in humid heat than you will in the shade in dry heat even if both locations measure the exact same temperature.

Humid heat is harder on the internal organs and can cause kidney and adrenal failure, heart failure and congestion of the lungs. It can screw up the whole digestive and urinary system, causes diarrhea, bladder infections, skin rashes, fungal and yeast infections and it causes a person to have to replace vital fluids and electrolytes more frequently than they would have to in dry heat because they sweat and excrete more in humid heat. Moisture doesn't wick away from the body to create a cooling effect as effectively in humid heat compared to dry heat.

Dry heat you still have to replace fluids and electrolytes but not as much as with humid heat, and it isn't as hard on the internal organs. You can correct the dry itchy skin problems and help prevent loss of moisture from the skin with frequent application of emollients on the skin, UV protection and by providing yourself with clothing and head wear that shades the skin.

There now, you have gotten your health lecture for the night.

haha yeah I guess you're right. I have never actually experienced intense humidity before. But I still like some humidity with warm temperatures. (Not too hot)

I don't mind humidity, but Kelowna to me has a preferable climate due to lack of wind.

In Toronto the wind never stops, even if it's a mild 10-20km breeze - but Kelowna is always calm.

I prefer the dry heat, too. Plus, Kelowna is a much prettier city to be hot in than Toronto.

I think the weather is more a regional thing, at least with Toronto. Toronto weather is almost always the same or close to the same as the rest of southern Ontario as well as Ohio/Upstate NY/Michigan

Is Toronto really that windy? Even more than Calgary?
