Many English-speaking Canadian actors and actresses have "crossed the 49th" to work in the U.S. French Quebecker actors and actresses, however, are few and far between down here. Which ones are considered "hot" up there now?
Some have done okay in the US, like Jessica Pare who is Don Draper's new wife in Mad Men and starred in the English language Canadian film "Stardom" which might have gotten some play in the US. I've seen her in some other stuff to, she's pretty good.
Anyhow, some mostly Francophone talent you might not have heard of.
Xavier Dolan
Vanessa Paradis
Gilbert Sicotte
Patrick Huard
Remy Girard
Louis-Jose Houde
Suzanne Clement

Good list, except Vanessa Paradis is from France, not Quebec.
Some others (anglo references when available, though most appear in stuff in French predominantly):
Do French Canadian actors and actresses receive much attention from the English-language press in Canada?
Nope, they're relatively unknown. Not that the English language press gives all that much publicity to English Canadian actors either, to be fair. Sarah Polley and Deepa Mehta are giants of Canadian cinema who haven't gone to Hollywood, but people don't know about their love lives like they'd know about Liam Neeson's or Matt Damon's because the publicity machine doesn't really exist as an aspect of English Canadian film making.

As a general rule, 99.9% of the time - NO.
The anglo media in Quebec does pay a little bit more attention, but generally it tends to focus its entertainment sights on the NYC-Hollywood axis and what comes out of there. Which is true of the press all across English Canada as well, who to be fair don't actually pay that much attention to English Canadian actors and actresses either, unless they are starring in American productions.
Back to the original question, francophone actors and actresses are treated by the press as though they were "foreign" (which is to say as if they didn't exist), as are francophone productions unless they attract significant international attention and win the Oscar for best foreign film or major prizes at Cannes.

So funny! We were writing basically the same thing at the same time!
