^Canada is a much smaller country than the US. It's obvious we don't have the population to compete with the US. It's quite clear you have some hate for Canada and that's fine. Each to their own. Why you are sitting on Canadian forums bashing the country is beyond me. It's not an argument that people are making...It's a statement. Toronto is the closest thing Canada has to NYC (which is the largest city in the US). Americans view NYC as their largest and most relevant city when it comes to business, fashion, name recognition, high real estate prices, jobs, etc. Canadians view Toronto as that city for Canada. That's all I was trying to say here... I was not comparing Toronto to the all mighty NYC. Because the US has 10 times the population, NYC is obviously going to be a bigger player in the global field. But to Canadians, our closest rival to New York City is Toronto. If you don't understand that, then might I suggest butting out of this thread.

I agree Toronto is the closest thing in Canada to NYC, however, you forget something more important, NYC is NOT the closest thing in the US to Toronto. You don't have to find something similar to NYC in Canada when there is none at all, do you?

I am simply stating New York is not Toronto's comparable, and why you take it as Canadian bashing is beyond me.

Let me put it mathematically so that a 8 eight year can understand, suppose we have 2 collections

A (2,3,5,9)
B (5,7,10,15,30)

I am basically saying the number 9 in A is closest to 10 in B because they are most similar in value. You are saying, NO, 9 in A is most similar to that 30 in B, because they are the biggest numbers in their respective collection! Why do you hate collection A so much to deny that

Hardheaded Socialism Makes Canada Richer Than U.S. - Bloomberg

Good article, kinda points out why everything is more expensive up here , good job by the banks on controlling debt by not giving people huge amounts of money who have no means to pay it back.

When the real estate markets even out to more appropriate prices I think we'll see much less of a gap between families in the two countries. In fact, I predict they'll surpass us again, especially if oil prices stay low or decline.
So true. I'd wait for that bubble to burst and the loonie to drop, then see how the numbers look.
In the 2 years since I left Toronto I was SHOCKED at how quickly property values went up.. hadn't seen that since the US, before the property bubble burst. I'm kind of hoping as part of me wants to move back when housing is more affordable up north.

This is somewhat true but not completely. Canada is very polycentric when it comes to its big cities and most of them have strong identities and dominate their surrounding regions. Vancouver is very much like this, but the classic example of this is of course French-speaking Canada where Montreal completely dominates and is THE metropolis. There, Toronto is just another North American city like Boston or Philadelphia, and doesn't play the metropolis role hardly at all.

Toronto is also fairly weak as a national cultural and entertainment metropolis (because of continental competition from LA and NYC), and this also affects its importance in Canada since this is often what shapes people's views of their metropolis. People in Calgary and Moncton may watch news out of Toronto, but when they watch talk shows, game shows and read magazines, most of the time this stuff is from LA or NYC, not Toronto.

Haha okay buddy. I'm not going to continue this disagreement. You see life one way, I see it another. 99% of Canadians would for sure see what I am trying to get across, you obviously are missing the point.

Travis3000 is exactly right. The US has great doctors and a lot of people who can't afford their services. President Obama is working to correct that. Americans will have Medicare for all someday.

There are a lot of right-wing loons down here. It's even worse than during the Reagan era.
