It's not really a big deal and the date usually goes by totally unnoticed. I am a history buff myself and actually had to look up the date to prepare this response, though I remember the year: 1759.
A few years ago, the people who run the battlefields park in Quebec City wanted to "celebrate" the 250th anniversary of the battle, with re-enactments, etc. Poor choice of wording (commemoration vs. celebration) and marketing (see the poster with the smiley guys) led to a big controversy and the event being scrapped.
