I have noticed a lot of changes on yonge street. Do you think that yonge street has changed more rapidly since street view went through in 2009? If there has been an increase in development I think it may be due to the end of the recession. You can see here comparisons of 2009 and present images of around yonge street to get an idea of how much it has changed: What's cooler than cool?!: Toronto urban development

I'd say Yonge Street is getting older.

All places are looking older every year, but Yonge street keeps having the old replaced with the new. I am not sure if this rate of replacement was always this fast. If so, street view will keep getting more useless as nothing will match whats in the images.

It is about time. As the most important street in the entire country, Yonge st looks tired and poor, particularly north of Dundas. There are too many characterless small low rises and tacky stores.

There are quite a few plans along Yonge st, such as 406 Yonge, 501 Yonge, 587-599 Yonge, 40 Wellesley E, plus 205 Yonge (Massey Hall condo), along with 5 St. Joseph, Aura etc under construction, all will turn into highrises. Yonge st will look a lot different in 5 years.

Sometimes old doesn't mean character, it just means ugly.

I have also wondered why yonge street looks so ugly north of dundas. Those stores do look ugly. A street like yonge street should look like bloor between yonge and bay and the portion of yonge below dundas is what the other part should be like. Right now all that part of yonge looks like run-down eglinton or dundas west, little portugal. Like you said, it should look quite different in 5 years.
