Phillipinos are like the biggest immigrant group to Winnipeg. It is surprising though, those of us who haven't been to Winnipeg, including many Canadians from other areas, think of it as a place with a big French population and wouldn't imagine an immigrant language would outnumber French unless we had above average knowledge about it. Anyways, I'd love to travel everywhere in the world too, but it's not always so individually feasible.

This is more indicative of recent immigration patterns than it is of Tagalog gaining a durable foothold as "Winnipeg's second language".
Consider that 50 years ago there were 500,000 people in Canada who spoke Ukrainian at home. Today there are less than 30,000 and that language is fading fast.
Immigrant languages always have huge growth spikes during the peak immigration periods, then they slowly decline once the immigration tap from the country of origin is turned off.
There are sometimes exceptions to this rule but they tend to be very rare.
They have some excellent Filipino food at Myrna's Cafe. Try the mami soup, pancit, or lumpia - and the prices are cheap, too. (And no, I was not paid to encourage Myrna's to this forum...just a very satisfied customer).
I was surprised by the size of the Filipino population, especially for a city with such harsh winters.
